Montreal-area drivers see gas prices fall nearly 10 cents per litre Friday

Drivers across the Montreal region are seeing some relief at the pumps Friday, with gasoline prices dropping by nearly 10 cents per litre compared with highs seen earlier this week.

Several stations across Montreal, Longueuil and surrounding areas were posting regular gasoline prices at 194.9 cents per litre Friday morning, down from prices above 203 cents per litre at some locations Thursday.

Among the lower prices reported Friday were an Esso station on Roland-Therrien Boulevard in Longueuil and two Petro-Canada stations in Montreal, one on Guy Street West and another on Saint-Jacques Street West, all selling regular gasoline for 194.9 cents per litre.

Meanwhile, some stations remained higher. A Shell station on Côte-des-Neiges Road in Montreal was posting regular gasoline at 205.9 cents per litre Friday morning.

Premium gasoline prices were ranging from about 220.9 cents to 237.9 cents per litre, while diesel prices at some stations were above 233 cents per litre.

The decline follows several sharp price increases seen earlier this month during a turbulent stretch driven by global supply concerns, refinery production shifts and fluctuating wholesale fuel costs.

Chief petroleum analyst at En-Pro International, Roger McKnight, has said the recent drop could be short-lived as markets continue reacting to uncertainty surrounding the conflict involving Iran and fluctuating crude oil prices.
