About 40 stolen vehicles intercepted at Port of Montreal

Approximately 40 stolen vehicles were intercepted at the Port of Montreal on Tuesday during a large-scale coordinated operation involving multiple agencies, including the Montreal Police (SPVM).

Most of the recovered vehicles were pickup trucks or luxury cars. Police say six additional vehicles were later seized from a commercial building in Anjou after investigators followed up on evidence collected at the port.

As part of the operation, dubbed WINN, officers questioned 47 truck drivers and issued 21 on-the-spot tickets.

Authorities say the evidence gathered could lead to further investigations in both Quebec and Ontario, and a file will be submitted to the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP) for potential charges.

The operation involved several partners, including the Canada Border Services Agency, the Montreal Port Authority and the Ontario Provincial Police.

Police note that the interception comes amid ongoing efforts to combat vehicle theft, with a previous major operation in April leading to arrests and seizures linked to a suspected export theft network.
