Nearly 60,000 homes in Quebec were without power on Saturday morning after severe thunderstorms hit several areas of the province the previous day.
At 10:56a.m., 51,855 Hydro-Québec customers were without power, according to data on the state-owned utility’s Info-pannes website.
The hardest-hit region was the Outaouais, where 20,431 households were dealing with power outages, followed by Montreal (11,282) and the Laurentians (8,229).
Laval and the Montérégie were also affected, with 4,926 and 3,817 addresses impacted, respectively.
“(The outages) were caused by wind gusts reaching up to 90 km/h in some areas, accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms,” Hydro-Québec stated in a message on its website.
More than 140 crews from the state-owned utility are on the ground Saturday working to restore service.
