Quebec police seize $6M in assets in drug-cutting materials investigation

Sûreté du Québec (SQ) say they seized hundreds of kilograms of lidocaine, more than $215,000 in cash and millions of dollars in alleged criminal assets during a series of searches linked to the illegal sale of substances used to cut cocaine.

The SQ’s Bureau de la récupération des actifs criminels carried out five searches at businesses in Boucherville, Longueuil, Montreal, Granby and Chambly on June 18, along with a search at a residence in Brossard.

Police say officers seized more than 730 kilograms of lidocaine, about 200 grams of cannabis, more than $215,000 in cash, precious metals valued at nearly $450,000, luxury jewelry and watches worth about $200,000, 56 presses and a luxury vehicle.

Investigators also froze eight properties with an estimated value exceeding $6 million, alleging they are offence-related property or proceeds of crime.

More than 65 officers from the SQ and several municipal police services took part in the operation. Revenu Québec and Canada’s financial intelligence agency, FINTRAC, are also assisting with the investigation.

No arrests have been made, but police say those targeted by the investigation could face charges related to drug production, possession of proceeds of crime and money laundering.
