“High-Profile Fashion Tycoon Peter Nygard Faces Justice in Montreal Sexual Assault Trial”

Today, in Montreal, the renowned fashion figure Peter Nygard is set to appear in court to face charges of sexual assault and forcible confinement.

Nygaard, the 84-year-old founder of the now-closed Nygard International women’s fashion brand, has refuted allegations claiming that he exploited his position to entice women and young girls.

In 2022, Quebec prosecutors formally charged Nygard with one count of sexual assault and one count of forcible confinement, relating to incidents that are said to have occurred between November 1997 and November 1998.

The identity of the alleged victim and the details presented during a preliminary hearing in January 2025 have been placed under a publication ban.

It’s worth noting that this legal case in Montreal is distinct from Nygard’s previous conviction in Toronto, where he was found guilty of four counts of sexual assault in 2023 and received an 11-year prison sentence.
