A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday evening in eastern Montreal when a man in his 50s lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Sherbrooke Street.
The collision took place close to Viau Street, which serves as the boundary between the neighborhoods of Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie and Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.
The Montreal police (SPVM) reported that the victim was crossing Sherbrooke Street from north to south when the eastbound vehicle collided with him at a location that was not marked as a crosswalk.
Despite efforts to revive him through CPR, the man was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics.
The driver of the vehicle stopped immediately and cooperated with authorities, experiencing shock from the incident, as confirmed by the SPVM.
An investigation has been initiated by the police to shed light on the circumstances leading to this tragic event, with no initial indication of criminal involvement, as stated by public information officer Raphaël Bergeron.
