This year’s VIFF promises a feast for film enthusiasts with 12 world premieres, six international premieres, 15 North American premieres, and 49 Canadian premieres hailing from 76 countries. The diverse selection also features 91 short films and two episodic series to keep audiences entertained throughout the event.
Kicking off the festival is the highly anticipated opening film, “The Debut,” starring Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti, directed by Jesse Eisenberg. Described as a blend of tension, humor, and irreverence, the film sets a vibrant tone for the festival’s exciting lineup.
A special highlight of this year’s VIFF is the Focus on New German Cinema: Extreme Tension program, which celebrates the innovative works of a fresh wave of German filmmakers pushing boundaries in the industry.
