Another MLA has recently left the BC Conservative caucus, adding to a growing trend over the past few months. Áʼa:líya Warbus, representing Chilliwack-Cultus Lake, announced her decision to become an Independent via social media on Monday. She becomes the seventh MLA to make this move since Kerry-Lynne Findlay’s appointment as the party leader in May.
Like her predecessors, Warbus specifically points to Findlay’s leadership as a major factor in her departure. Expressing the need for stable guidance during uncertain times, she emphasized the importance of bringing people together, a task she believes is not being effectively carried out within the party.
In her statement, Warbus highlighted the concerning pattern of high turnover within the party, noting that it extends beyond just sitting MLAs to include key members of riding associations and staff.
This move follows Abbotsford South MLA Bruce Banman’s recent exit from the party, who mentioned that many constituents no longer see the party as viable under Findlay’s leadership.
Joining the ranks of MLAs who have left the BC Conservative Party since Findlay’s leadership began are Teresa Wat (Richmond-Bridgeport), Brennan Day (Courtenay-Comox), Peter Milobar (Kamloops Central), Ian Paton (Delta South), and Rosalyn Bird (Prince George-Valemount).
