As summer draws to a close and families settle back into their school routines, GO Transit is gearing up to adjust train services on multiple lines in what they describe as a temporary measure.
The upcoming changes, set to begin as early as this Saturday, will affect the Lakeshore West, Lakeshore East, Barrie, and Stouffville lines, as outlined in a recent service update by GO Transit.
The modifications are being made to facilitate the training and certification of crews for their rail partner, Alstom, and to cater to future service demands as part of their ongoing infrastructure expansion project.
Key changes in the train services include alterations to schedules and frequencies, while additional trips will be introduced on several bus routes to complement the upcoming adjustments.

Addressing queries about the service alterations during a recent news conference, Ontario Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria emphasized that these changes are temporary and part of the regular adjustments made by GO Transit to enhance service quality.
Sarkaria pointed out that periodic changes are essential to address various factors affecting service efficiency, such as slow orders impacting Lakeshore West trains to Niagara Falls, which are being supplemented with bus services to minimize delays.
While acknowledging the minor disruptions these adjustments may cause, Sarkaria highlighted that they also pave the way for infrastructure enhancements along the Barrie and Stouffville lines, ultimately leading to improved service in the future.
