Two men have been apprehended by the Richmond RCMP for their involvement in a daring break-in at a store located in the bustling McArthurGlen Designer Outlet in Richmond.
In the early hours of Aug. 15, reports flooded in to the police department about a stolen vehicle crashing through the gates of the mall and smashing into the front of a store. The audacious culprits, identified as Derek Muirhead and Shahbaz Aulakh, allegedly seized merchandise from the store before fleeing the scene.
Swift police action led to the interception of the suspect vehicle, despite the perpetrators attempting to evade capture. Following a dramatic chase that involved the use of a tire-deflation device, the vehicle eventually collided with two police cars before being brought to a halt near No. 3 Road and Capstan Way.
The suspects, in a last-ditch effort to escape on foot, were promptly apprehended without further trouble. All the stolen goods were successfully recovered, bringing a sense of relief to the affected store owners.
Derek Muirhead and Shahbaz Aulakh face a series of charges including break and enter, mischief, dangerous operation of a vehicle, assault of a peace officer with a weapon, and obstructing a peace officer. Moreover, both individuals were found to be associated with unrelated outstanding warrants at the time of arrest. Presently, they are in custody awaiting their bail hearings.
