A man from Chaudière-Appalaches struck luck with a routine lottery purchase, turning $5 into a whopping $5 million.
Alexandre Patoine, a local resident, found himself the lucky winner of the $5 million prize on a scratch ticket he bought at DépaMax Sainte-Marie.
Patoine, who often buys lottery tickets at the end of his workweek, scratched the ticket at the store and was left in shock when number 37 unveiled the grand prize.
After confirming his win at the store, Patoine excitedly shared the news with his partner and family, who were overjoyed by the unexpected windfall.
Despite the newfound fortune, Patoine has no intentions of retiring soon. Instead, he plans to use some of the money to treat his loved ones.
In addition to Patoine’s win, the retailer who sold the winning ticket will receive a commission of $50,000, amounting to 1% of the prize.
This win adds to the streak of significant lottery payouts reported by Loto-Québec. With a record $1.9 billion given out in prizes last year and 111 new millionaires in Québec, luck seems to be shining bright on lottery players in the province.
