The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) has lifted the area restriction order that had been imposed around the Bald Range wildfire since late August. According to the latest update released on Friday, the BCWS stated that the fire activity has decreased significantly, leading to the decision to allow public access to the area.
While the restriction order has been removed, it’s important to note that the wildfire is still an active incident. BCWS advises caution to anyone entering the area, emphasizing the need to stay alert and vigilant.
Even though public access is now permitted, BCWS emphasized that the fire zone remains a designated work area. Authorities retain the power to enforce evacuation orders under the Wildfire Act if necessary.
The BCWS is alerting the public to various persistent dangers, including unstable trees, hot ash pits with hidden flames, and the potential for falling debris. As the firefighting efforts continue, residents and visitors should expect to see smoke in the vicinity in the following weeks.
While smoke rising from within the fire perimeter is normal, BCWS urges individuals to report any smoke emanating from green, unburned vegetation, as it may indicate a new fire start.
