The Metro Vancouver Board of Directors has announced a change in executive leadership, as Chief Administrative Officer and Commissioner Jerry Dobrovolny is stepping down from his role within the organization.
In a recent statement, Metro Vancouver Board Chair Mike Hurley explained that this decision aligns with the upcoming municipal election and the ongoing efforts towards governance reform within the regional district.
Hurley emphasized, “Given the approaching municipal election and our continuous focus on governance reform, the Board has determined that now is the opportune moment to transition leadership for the organization’s next phase. We have reached an agreement with Jerry regarding this transition.”
Since joining Metro Vancouver in 2019, Dobrovolny has successfully navigated the organization through the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and its subsequent recovery phase. Under his guidance, Metro Vancouver has seen the completion of various significant infrastructure projects spanning the region.
Reportedly, Dobrovolny managed around 300 concurrent projects while collaborating with municipal, provincial, and federal authorities on addressing regional priorities.
As part of the leadership transition, Heather McNell, Metro Vancouver’s Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Policy and Planning, has been appointed as the Acting Chief Administrative Officer and Commissioner.
The timeline for selecting a permanent replacement has not yet been disclosed by Metro Vancouver.
