Early Wednesday morning, a watermain break in Scarborough resulted in a sinkhole and road closure along Kennedy Road, causing traffic disruptions and prompting TTC bus detours.
Toronto authorities responded to reports of a watermain break near Kennedy Road and McNicoll Avenue around 4:30 a.m. The incident caused damage to the road, leading to the formation of a sinkhole and affecting the surrounding asphalt. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
In light of the situation, the northbound lanes of Kennedy Road at McNicoll Avenue have been shut down for assessment and repair work. The closure was necessary due to a sinkhole that caused the road to fold, according to traffic officials.
The road closure has impacted transit services, with the TTC’s northbound 43 Kennedy bus being rerouted via McNicoll Avenue, Milliken Boulevard, and Passmore Avenue to work around the affected area.
As of now, there is no estimated time for the reopening of the roadway. Motorists are advised to exercise caution when passing through the vicinity and to anticipate delays.
