Toronto Police Escalate Crackdown with Fourth Arrest Amid Etobicoke Bike Lane Protests

An individual was recently taken into custody for causing disturbances and hindering law enforcement during the ongoing demonstrations against the removal of bike lanes on Bloor Street West in Etobicoke this week.

Supporters of cycling and their allies have been joining forces with construction crews since last week, aiming to impede the work progress and persistently express their disapproval of dismantling what they perceive as crucial cycling infrastructure that saves lives.

In the preceding days, three additional individuals, including Paralympian Aly Van Wyck-Smart, were apprehended for their involvement. Van Wyck-Smart, a two-time Canadian Paralympian, was actively protesting in a wheelchair. All of them have been accused of causing disturbances and hindering law enforcement activities.

Authorities have reported that the latest detainment was of an adult and took place shortly after 1:15 p.m. The specific charges have yet to be officially filed.
