Montreal’s vibrant Chinatown was at the forefront on Saturday as candidates from various political parties gathered to discuss their visions for the historic neighborhood.
With the assistance of Chinese translators, a community debate provided locals with the opportunity to directly interact with the candidates and address pressing issues such as social housing, cohabitation, environmental concerns, heritage conservation, and economic growth.
Pak-Kei Wong, the President of the Montreal Chinatown Round Table, emphasized the ongoing importance of the Chinatown Action Plan 2021–2026 and urged the next administration to build upon the work already done and incorporate community suggestions into an updated plan.
The engaging event was organized by the Montreal Chinatown Round Table (MCRT) in collaboration with the Table de concertation du Faubourg St. Laurent.
In a bid to encourage voter turnout on Nov. 2, the MCRT will provide transportation and assistance to ensure that all eligible residents can easily reach their designated polling stations.
