Families, hospital staff, cancer patients, and survivors united on Sunday for the commemorative 10th annual Cedars Run for Ovarian Cancer in TMR. The event brought together a diverse community to support a crucial cause.
During the event, funds were raised for the groundbreaking DOvEEgene Research Program, spearheaded by leading MUHC gynecological oncologist Dr. Lucy Gilbert. The program introduced a cutting-edge genomic PAP test that has the ability to detect ovarian and endometrial cancers as early as stage 1, providing a beacon of hope in the fight against these often late-detected diseases.
Participants engaged in various activities including a 2km run/walk, a timed 5km run/walk, and a timed 10km run, collectively contributing to the cause and raising awareness.
This year’s run was particularly poignant as it paid tribute to the memory of Dominique Dagenais, a resilient individual who battled ovarian cancer and sadly passed away in March 2025. Despite her own struggles, Dominique channeled her experience into a mission by establishing the Dagenais Joly Smith Fund along with her husband Stephen and son Maxime. The fund’s efforts resulted in over $1.2 million being donated to the DOvEEgene Research Program.
As the Cedars Run marked its milestone anniversary, it underscored its dedication to realizing Dominique’s vision of a future where no woman succumbs to ovarian or endometrial cancer.
