The trial date for a man from Ontario accused of selling dangerous substances online to individuals who subsequently used them to end their lives has been rescheduled to April 2026.
Kenneth Law faces serious charges, including 14 counts of first-degree murder and aiding suicide, and the trial is anticipated to span eight weeks.
Originally planned for January 2026, Law’s trial has been postponed once more as both the prosecution and defense are awaiting a crucial decision from the Supreme Court of Canada in a related case that could impact the proceedings.
The Crown is challenging a ruling by Ontario’s highest court which suggests that a person may be held accountable for murder only if they directly provided the lethal substance to someone who then chose to end their own life, exerting undue influence over their decision.
Authorities allege that Law operated multiple websites where sodium nitrite and other harmful substances were sold for self-harm purposes, shipping them to customers in over 40 countries.
All allegations against Law pertain to the same group of 14 individuals, aged between 16 and 36.
