Third Juvenile Suspect Apprehended in Tragic Killing of 8-Year-Old JahVai Roy

Toronto authorities have apprehended the third and final individual linked to the tragic death of eight-year-old JahVai Roy. The young boy lost his life after being struck by a stray bullet while he was asleep in his family’s North York residence on August 16.

After identifying three suspects in the case, two had been previously arrested, leaving the third one outstanding. All three individuals involved are minors whose identities are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Initially, there was an attempt to disclose the names and photos of the accused with judicial approval, which has now lapsed, rendering them anonymous.

The latest arrest of the third suspect took place on Sunday, October 19, 2025, in Oshawa by the Durham Regional Police Service, concerning a separate investigation. Each of the three suspects is facing charges of first-degree murder.

The tragic incident unfolded with a shootout occurring outside the child’s apartment building on Martha Eaton Way, near Trethewey Drive, just before 12:30 a.m. on August 16. Responding officers found Roy with a gunshot wound and rushed him to the hospital, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead.

Detective Sergeant Jason Davis condemned the violence, describing it as a cowardly and heinous act. He emphasized the heartbreaking aspect of the situation, highlighting that the young boy was at the supposed safety of his home when the stray bullet tragically struck him.
