In Montreal, a heartfelt tribute was held on Monday evening to honor the memory of the victims of the tragic Hamas attack on Israel over two years ago. The event, organized by Federation CJA, paid homage to the bravery displayed by those who sacrificed their lives to protect others, embodying the spirit of Jewish heroism. Among the heroes remembered was Alexandre Look, a Montreal resident who tragically lost his life during the attack.
Alexandre was among the 370 individuals who perished during a music festival in Southern Israel. Reports indicate that he selflessly shielded others, ultimately saving eight lives. His mother, Raquel Look, expressed both pride and sorrow, reflecting on her son’s innate courage and selflessness.
Nir Amitay, the founder of Rimon Farm, a sanctuary for Israelis suffering from PTSD, shared his personal journey of healing through helping others. He emphasized the cycle of giving and receiving, highlighting the therapeutic nature of supporting those in need.
The commemoration served as a poignant reminder of the resilience and unity within the community during times of adversity. Participants found solace in coming together, drawing strength from solidarity, faith, and the enduring legacy of heroes like Alexandre Look.
While news of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas brought a sense of relief, the fragile nature of peace was underscored by recent tragedies. Despite the challenges, the Consul General of Israel in Montreal expressed gratitude towards the unwavering support and solidarity extended by the Montreal community.
