“Shaping Futures: Montreal’s EMSB Celebrates 25 Years of Pioneering Student Paths at Annual Education & Career Fair!”

The English Montreal School Board’s annual Education and Career Fair recently took place at the St. Pius X Career Centre in Ahuntsic, focusing on guiding high school students towards their future paths.

In its 25th year, the event hosted hundreds of grade nine, 10, and 11 students to explore various post-high school options, ranging from vocational training to CEGEP and university studies.

Lovina Brown, Academic & Vocational Information Counselor at the SHADD Health & Business Centre, emphasized the abundance of knowledge available to students attending the fair. She highlighted the support provided to help students establish their career paths and achieve professional success.

This year’s fair had a slight change in format, transitioning from a two-day schedule to a single open house held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event continued to feature special information sessions in the auditorium.

Pamela Pagano from CityNews Montreal hosted informative presentations that included live testimonials from vocational students, offering attendees a firsthand glimpse into real experiences and career journeys.

Brown emphasized the importance of such events for young individuals who may be uncertain about their future paths, providing them with alternative options and insights.

The fair provided a centralized platform for students to explore various post-secondary programs and engage directly with representatives. The dynamic atmosphere at the St. Pius X Career Centre plaza allowed students to participate in interactive experiences, such as trying out hairstyling or nail services offered by current students at the Laurier MacDonald Career Centre, engaging in activities like tire-changing, welding, computer graphics, and more.

Brown noted that these hands-on experiences went beyond words on paper, providing students with live demonstrations and active participation opportunities to help them make informed decisions about their future career paths.
