“Brampton Mayor Demands Urgent Bail Reform After Predictable, Preventable Kulla Tragedy”

Following a tragic incident of domestic violence in a Brampton parking lot, Mayor Patrick Brown is urging swift changes to the criminal code for better protection against such crimes.

The recent incident involved Anthony Deschepper, who was on bail for firearms charges when 29-year-old Savannah Kulla, a mother of four, was fatally shot in a Brampton plaza. The police confirmed the homicide was related to intimate partner violence.

Deschepper later abducted their one-year-old daughter, leading to an Amber Alert. He dropped the child off with relatives in Niagara before being fatally shot by police there, with investigations ongoing.

Reports reveal Deschepper had a history of violence, including firing a gun during an earlier altercation with Kulla. Despite court conditions prohibiting contact, they continued their relationship, leading to tragic consequences.

Mayor Brown is advocating for tougher measures to prevent violent offenders from being released on bail, emphasizing the need for improved resource allocation to the justice and correctional systems.

The government has proposed reforms to address repeat offenders, but concerns remain about gaps in the system that could endanger victims. A memorial at the scene serves as a reminder of the tragedy, with friends and family mourning the loss of Savannah Kulla.
