In a thrilling game on Thursday night, Vasily Podkolzin scored a crucial goal with just over a minute remaining to lead the Edmonton Oilers to a remarkable 6-5 comeback victory over the Montreal Canadiens.
Podkolzin, netting his first goal of the season, sealed the win for the Oilers. The game saw a dramatic turn of events as Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored power-play goals within a span of 58 seconds in the third period to level the score.
Contributing to Edmonton’s win were goals from David Tomasek, Adam Henrique, and Andrew Mangiapane, with goalkeeper Calvin Pickard making 22 saves.
Montreal put up a tough fight with goals from Alex Newhook, Cole Caufield (who scored twice each), and Josh Anderson. Despite their efforts, they fell short as goaltender Sam Montembeault made 23 saves.
Looking ahead, the Canadiens will face the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night, while the Oilers will take on the Seattle Kraken.
