Parole Denied: Eaton Centre Gunman Christopher Husbands to Remain Behind Bars

Christopher Husbands, the individual responsible for the tragic 2012 Eaton Centre shooting that resulted in the loss of two lives, has been denied parole following over a decade in prison.

The Parole Board of Canada has turned down Husbands’ requests for various forms of parole, including unescorted temporary absences, day parole, and full parole. A detailed explanation of the board’s decision will be made public in 15 days.

Now 36 years old, Husbands has served 13 years in custody. During his time behind bars, he completed his high school education, obtained a college diploma in business management, and received training as a welder. He expressed to the board his desire to pursue a career as a welder and support troubled youth if granted release.

In a final statement, Husbands expressed remorse to the victims and their families.

“I acknowledge that seeking release could cause pain and reopen past wounds,” he stated. “I aspire that my commitment to transforming my life and assisting individuals at risk of going down a similar destructive path will offer some solace. My goal is to help prevent the recurrence of similar crimes.”

No victim impact statements were provided during the hearing.
