Young pitcher Trey Yesavage’s remarkable journey continues as he takes the mound for the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1 of the World Series today. Despite being a rookie, the 22-year-old has impressed at every level within the Blue Jays organization, earning his spot in the major leagues. His next challenge? Facing off against Shohei Ohtani and the powerhouse Los Angeles Dodgers.
Approaching the high-pressure game, Yesavage shared, “I try to treat it as if it’s not as high-pressure as it is mentally, but I know it’s there.” So far, he holds a 2-1 record with a 4.20 ERA and 22 strikeouts from three postseason starts. On the Dodgers side, left-hander Blake Snell aims to build on his 3-0 postseason record, while Yoshinobu Yamamoto will start Game 2 for Los Angeles.
The Blue Jays’ offense, led by Vladimir Guerrero Jr., enters the series with an impressive display. Guerrero Jr. boasts a .442 batting average in the postseason, along with six home runs and 12 RBIs. The game is set to kick off at 8 p.m. ET at Toronto’s Rogers Centre.
Legendary Blue Jays figures Cito Gaston and Joe Carter will kick off Game 1 and Game 2 by throwing the first pitch. Gaston, the first African-American manager to win a World Series title and Toronto’s winningest manager, managed the Blue Jays from 1989 to 1997 and then from 2008 to 2010.
