The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has intercepted a significant amount of chemicals linked to the illegal production of drugs, including fentanyl. Acting on intelligence, CBSA officers discovered 4,300 liters of these substances hidden in two containers arriving from China at the Tsawwassen Container Examination Facility in Delta. The illicit chemicals were en route to Calgary, raising concerns about the spread of dangerous narcotics.
Among the seized items were 3,600 liters of 1, 4 Butanediol, a key ingredient in the production of GHB, commonly known as the “date-rape drug.” Additionally, 500 liters of propionyl chloride, a precursor to fentanyl, and 200 liters of Gamma butyrolactone were confiscated by authorities. This interception underscores the ongoing battle against the illegal drug trade and the need for vigilant monitoring at border entry points.
CBSA reports a total of 12,193 seizures made in the past three months, covering a wide range of illicit goods such as drugs, firearms, prohibited weapons, alcohol, tobacco, jewelry, and even over $9 million in cash. These efforts highlight the agency’s commitment to combatting criminal activities and keeping communities safe from the harmful effects of illegal substances.
