Expelled From CAQ, Quebec MNA Blasts Controversial New Law Targeting Doctors

Isabelle Poulet, a Member of the National Assembly representing Laporte, has expressed her loss of trust in the Legault government due to the passing of a law reforming doctors’ payment methods under closure.

Poulet had prepared a statement to announce her departure from the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) caucus during a press conference on Tuesday, but the briefing was abruptly canceled. She was later expelled from the CAQ caucus after a meeting with Premier François Legault.

In her released statement, Poulet criticized Health Minister Christian Dubé’s handling of the doctors’ issue and highlighted her disagreement with the passing of Bill 2. She stated that the public’s confidence in the CAQ has waned and that the party no longer aligns with her values and beliefs.

Although Poulet supported the idea of changing doctors’ payment structures, she could not support the specific approach proposed in the legislation. She is now advocating for renewed dialogue with doctors and continues to serve as an independent member of parliament.
