Supreme Court refuses to hear extradition challenge by alleged Quebec fraudster

A Quebec man suspected of fraud involving weight loss products will likely be extradited to the United States.

The Supreme Court of Canada refused to hear the appeal of Michel Poirier, who was contesting his extradition.

In the latest ruling in this case, the Superior Court said it was convinced that the accused was the person sought by the U.S. authorities.

Michel Poirier is suspected of “fraudulently obtaining printing and mailing services used to promote and sell weight loss products by mail order, as well as defrauding consumers who attempted to purchase these products, resulting in losses of approximately $1,795,900 for all victims,” according to the Superior Court’s decision.

The court had ordered his incarceration pending extradition to the United States.

More specifically, U.S. authorities are seeking Poirier’s extradition so that he can stand trial in the state of Wisconsin.
