An incident involving a woman and a child falling to their deaths from a balcony in North Vancouver last year is suspected to have been a murder-suicide, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says.
“[The investigation] remains open for the final analysis of some reports; however, all evidence to date indicates this was a murder-suicide,” said Sgt. Freda Fong.

On Aug. 20, 2024, the RCMP responded to reports of the falls at an apartment complex on East Esplanade Avenue, police say.
When they arrived, they found two females suffering from injuries sustained during the fall. At the time, police said the victims were one adult and one “school-aged child.”
Crews attempted lifesaving measures, but they were both later pronounced dead.
“Police believe the two were known to one another and are not looking for any other suspects at this time,” IHIT Cpl. Esther Tupper said at the time.
Fong says the investigation is close to conclusion, and more information will be available at a later date.
