Section of Stanley Park seawall to close for annual maintenance

A section of the Stanley Park seawall will be blocked off to pedestrians and cyclists for over a week starting Monday.

The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation says crews will be completing annual maintenance between Third Beach and Prospect Point until Nov. 28.

The city says the work will include power washing Siwash Rock and some sections of sandstone, vegetation removal, debris removal, inspections of netting and rock anchors and overall rock slope stabilization.

“Rock slope maintenance is essential to reducing risk of rock and debris slides onto the seawall pedestrian and cycling path, which is caused by heavy rain, windstorms, ice accumulation, and spring thaw. Rock slope maintenance has been taking place in Stanley Park every year for almost two decades,” said the City of Vancouver website.

Signs about the closure and recommended detours will be posted in the park.

A map of alternative routes can also be found on the city’s website.
