Quebec government will present economic update Nov. 25

Quebec Finance Minister Eric Girard will provide an update on Quebec’s economic and financial situation on Nov. 25, exactly eight months after the presentation of the 2025-2026 budget.

The CAQ government projected a deficit of $13.6 billion, or 2.2 per cent of GDP, for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, while maintaining the objective of achieving budgetary balance within five years.

The March budget was presented as the U.S. tariffs war was beginning. The fall economic update should allow for an assessment of the impact of President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Quebec’s finances.

The economic statement will also have to take into account the new federal budget of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government.

When Carney presented his budget, Girard did not hide his disappointment. In particular, he judged that the new infrastructure investments were insufficient.
