Southeastern British Columbia is bracing for a wintry blast as up to 20 centimetres of snowfall is forecasted today.
A snowfall alert has been issued by Environment Canada for the Elk Valley area near Fernie, B.C., bordering Alberta.
The alert covers the entire southern border of Alberta with the U.S. and parts of southern Saskatchewan as well.
The snow is anticipated to come from a low-pressure system and is projected to taper off by Monday evening.
In a separate weather event, a Pacific front swept across the B.C. coast, bringing heavy rainfall to various areas including Metro Vancouver, Howe Sound, and Vancouver Island.
On Saturday, significant rainfall was recorded with Squamish seeing 66 millimetres, Zeballos on northern Vancouver Island receiving 65 millimetres, and Port Moody in northeastern Metro Vancouver reporting 50 millimetres of rain.
