Breaking News: License Revocation Hits Bedford Elementary as Teacher Investigation Deepens

Quebec’s Ministry of Education has taken decisive action against teachers involved in the scandal at Bedford Elementary School in Côte-des-Neiges borough. Licenses of some teachers have been revoked, while others are under suspension pending further investigation, as confirmed by the ministry.

Education Minister Sonia LeBel’s office stated to CityNews that investigative committees have been established to conduct thorough examinations involving legal and administrative processes in the Bedford School case. The statement indicated that ongoing actions may lead to additional license revocations as the process unfolds.

Meanwhile, Alain Perron, spokesperson for the Centre de services scolaire de Montréal (CSSM), mentioned that the school board will terminate teachers promptly upon the decision of the ministry-appointed investigation committees. The dismissal procedure will be activated following the ministerial decision to dismiss individuals involved.

This situation stems from events in October 2024 when former Education Minister Bernard Drainville suspended 11 teachers due to a troubling investigation revealing a harmful environment at the school characterized by fear and intimidation orchestrated by a group of teachers. The ministry’s report highlighted alarming instances of physical and psychological abuse towards both students and staff, such as yelling, humiliation, intimidation, insubordination, and incivilities.

The incident at Bedford Elementary School has raised concerns among parents and prompted broader inquiries into the practices at other Montreal schools.
