“Brace for Impact: Greater Toronto Area Faces Triple Threat of Strong Winds, Torrential Rain, and Blanket Snowfall This Sunday”

Toronto and Surrounding Areas Brace for Snow and Strong Winds on Sunday

Environment Canada has issued a special weather alert for Toronto and its surrounding areas in anticipation of significant snowfall and strong winds forecasted for Sunday.

CityNews Meteorologist Chris Potter reports that a weather system originating in Southwestern Ontario is set to bring a widespread accumulation of 5 to 10 cm of snow, potentially leading to challenging travel conditions.

While the snowfall is not expected to be heavy, it will be widespread, with a brief switch to showers around midday before clearing off towards the East.

The weather statement covers parts of Peel, Halton, and Niagara regions, as well as Hamilton.

According to the national weather agency, there is a possibility of the snow transitioning into rain on Sunday morning for most areas, accompanied by strong southwest winds with gusts reaching 60 to 70 km/h.

In case the precipitation remains as snow, accumulations could surpass 10 cm, potentially causing local utility outages.

Environment Canada warns that roads and walkways are likely to become challenging to navigate due to accumulating snow.

The temperature in Toronto is expected to reach a high of 3°C on Sunday, dropping to a low of -6°C.

Meanwhile, areas to the north and east of Toronto are under a snowfall warning, with Environment Canada anticipating snowfall amounts of 10 cm, and a possibility of accumulation reaching 15 to 20 cm in places like Richmond Hill, Markham, Newmarket, and Georgina.
