Tragic Accident: Tow Truck Driver Killed While Assisting Stranded Motorist on Highway
A heartbreaking incident occurred on Highway 401 just west of Cambridge, as a tow truck driver lost his life while coming to the aid of a stranded motorist. The driver was struck by a vehicle in the westbound lanes, leading to a road closure for further investigation.
Authorities have closed all westbound lanes from Cedar Creek Road to Oxford Road 29 following the tragic collision. The closure is anticipated to last between six to eight hours as police work to gather information and understand the circumstances surrounding the accident.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police, the fatal incident took place around 7 a.m. on Wednesday near Oxford Road 3. The tow truck operator was assisting a stranded driver when a vehicle struck them. Shockingly, the driver responsible for the collision fled the scene, leaving behind a devastating scene.
Police are urging anyone who may have been in the vicinity between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. and have dashcam footage to come forward and assist with the investigation into this tragic event.
