A dramatic police chase unfolded in York Region recently, involving a 29-year-old man who now faces a staggering 32 charges.
The incident began in the early hours of November 29 when police spotted a Dodge Caravan driving recklessly on Rutherford Road. Despite attempts to stop the vehicle, the driver fled, sparking a pursuit aided by the police helicopter, Air2.
The chase escalated as the suspect raced at high speeds without headlights, running red lights, and even driving against traffic on Major Mackenzie Drive West. In a daring move, he tried to steal another vehicle in the Dufferin Street and Teston Road area before returning to the Caravan to dodge police.
Even after police deployed a tire deflation device, the driver persisted, only coming to a halt in an underground parking garage on Antibes Drive in North York. As he attempted to escape on foot, authorities managed to apprehend him.
Further investigations revealed the suspect’s involvement in two commercial break-ins in Richmond Hill and Toronto, along with the theft of the Dodge Caravan. It was also discovered that the man had been driving with a suspended license since 2023.
John Derick Saturnino now faces an array of charges, including dangerous driving, driving while prohibited, stunt driving, theft, and breach of probation.
