“Echoes of Orwell: Quebec Doctors Ramp Up Warnings Against Controversial Bill 2”

Quebec Doctors Facing Uncertain Future Due to Bill 2 Changes

The Quebec government, under a veil of secrecy, introduced Bill 2 in late October, a controversial move that links part of physicians’ earnings to performance metrics, causing concern among many doctors who fear the strain it will place on the already fragile primary healthcare system.

As the National Assembly prepares to adjourn for winter break until February 2, doctors are scrambling to push for amendments to Bill 2 before the impending December 12 deadline. The financial pressures brought about by the bill have left around 40 clinics in the province contemplating closure, including a clinic in Côte Saint-Luc run by Dr. Michael Kalin, a Montreal family physician and local coordinator for the Département Territorial de Médecine Familiale de Montréal (DTMF).

In an exclusive interview with CityNews, Dr. Kalin shared insights on the potential repercussions of Bill 2 on both physicians and patients, shedding light on the significant changes it proposes for primary care in Quebec.
