Montreal Braces for Snowy and Windy Weather, Travel Advisory in Place
Montreal is under a yellow winter weather travel advisory on Thursday, as Environment and Climate Change Canada warns of challenging road conditions. Blowing snow and fresh accumulation could make driving difficult, with winds gusting up to 60 km/h expected to reduce visibility on exposed roads.
Motorists are advised to be cautious and adapt to the rapidly changing weather conditions. The day is forecast to bring periods of snow and local blowing snow, with around 10 cm already fallen in southern Quebec since Wednesday morning. An additional 5 to 10 cm of snow is expected throughout Thursday.
Temperatures are set to drop, with a high of minus 9 Celsius predicted for Thursday afternoon. The wind chill could make it feel as cold as minus 18 Celsius by late day, with westerly winds keeping temperatures low.
As the night progresses, light snow will diminish near midnight, giving way to partly cloudy skies and lingering blowing snow in some areas. The overnight low is forecasted to dip to minus 11 Celsius, with a wind chill nearing minus 20 Celsius.
Friday will see a mix of sun and cloud, with a high of minus 4 Celsius. Wind chills in the morning could reach as low as minus 21 Celsius, easing to around minus 10 Celsius in the afternoon. The night will be clear with a low of minus 9 Celsius.
The weekend brings more wintry weather, with flurries expected on Saturday and periods of snow at night. Sunday will be sunny but colder, with a high near minus 8 Celsius and a clear night dropping to minus 14 Celsius.
