“Ontario Integrity Commissioner Launches Probe into Labour Minister David Piccini’s Conduct”

The Ontario Integrity Commissioner has initiated an inquiry into Ontario Labour Minister David Piccini regarding the selection process for the Skills Development Fund Training Stream, as reported by 680 NewsRadio.

The investigation stems from concerns raised by NDP Leader Marit Stiles and Liberal MPP Stephanie Smyth, alleging possible violations of various sections of the Members’ Integrity Act, including conflict of interest, insider information, influence, gifts, and conflict of interest procedures within the program.

Calls for Piccini’s resignation have intensified following a critical report by the Ontario auditor general that criticized the lack of fairness, transparency, and accountability in the Skills Development Fund.

According to the auditor’s findings, Piccini’s office exerted significant influence in approving projects under the $2.5-billion program, sometimes awarding funds to lower-ranked applicants without clear documentation. Furthermore, over 60 lower-scoring applicants were granted funding after hiring lobbyists, sparking accusations of preferential treatment from the opposition.

Despite mounting pressure, Premier Doug Ford has refrained from dismissing Piccini, who continues to emphasize the positive impact of the fund in facilitating job opportunities for thousands of individuals.
