Weather Woes Continue: Mont-Sainte-Anne Opening Postponed Again Due to Persistent Rain

Due to heavy rain and safety concerns regarding the ski lifts, the Mont-Sainte-Anne ski resort has decided to delay its season opening by one day. Originally set to kick off on Friday, the resort will now welcome skiers and snowboarders on Saturday.

Mont-Sainte-Anne officials cited adverse weather conditions and the forecasted amount of rain as the reasons behind the delayed opening. This decision follows an order from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec, issued on December 12, which mandated the temporary shutdown of four ski lifts for safety inspections and maintenance.

The affected ski lifts included L’Express du Nord, L’Express du Sud, L’Étoile filante, and La Panorama Express. The Régie du bâtiment required the closure of these lifts to ensure their proper functioning following electrical circuit work carried out by the resort.

In response to the order, the Parti Québécois called on the Legault government to reconsider its contractual relationship with the resort’s current operator. Mont-Sainte-Anne’s operation was privatized under a 99-year leasehold agreement that is set to expire in 2093.

Overall, the delay in the resort’s opening serves as a precautionary measure to guarantee the safety and quality of the skiing experience for visitors once the slopes are ready for the season.
