“Third of Canadians Set to Switch Careers in 2026, Reveals New Study”

A recent study conducted by talent management firm Robert Half reveals that a significant number of professionals in Canada are considering changing jobs in the upcoming year. The survey, which involved nearly 2,000 employed and job-seeking Canadians, found that one in three respondents is planning to switch jobs in the first six months of the year, marking a seven percent increase since July 2025.

Michael O’Leary, the senior regional director of Robert Half Eastern Canada, suggests that the growing demand for workers might be alleviating concerns about the economy and global uncertainties. He believes that people are becoming more comfortable with the unknown, leading them to seek new opportunities.

The study highlights that enhanced perks and benefits are key factors driving individuals to explore different job prospects, with competitive compensation and limited growth opportunities in their current roles ranking high on the list. Rising living costs and expenses have also contributed to the desire for change among workers.

CityNews in Montreal spoke to locals who echoed O’Leary’s observations. Some individuals mentioned that the need for additional income or a desire for change could be motivating the job search process, especially as the job market seems to be improving.

The study also identifies technology professionals, Generation Z workers, and working parents as groups showing a considerable interest in seeking new job opportunities within the next year. O’Leary attributes this trend to the valuable skills possessed by individuals in these groups, particularly those in the tech sector and of the Gen Z demographic.

While there is optimism about job prospects, experts caution that job seekers may encounter challenges such as stiff competition, finding the right work environment, showcasing skills effectively, and navigating the hiring process. O’Leary advises job seekers to prioritize networking, maintain a strong digital presence on platforms like LinkedIn, and conduct thorough research to align their career goals with potential job opportunities.
