Many Quebecers are reconsidering their alcohol consumption habits, even if they are not alcoholics or at a rock bottom. The Jean Lapointe Foundation is encouraging those interested in a break to join the 28-Day Alcohol-Free Challenge, now spanning two months instead of one this year.
In its 13th edition, the foundation is focusing on individuals who already observe a dry January. Jean-Marie Lapointe, the event’s ambassador, explains the significance of this initiative. “It’s a chance to detox from recent indulgences and reflect on our relationship with alcohol,” he shares.
Recognizing the impacts of alcohol on health, Lapointe emphasizes the importance of self-care and moderation. The foundation aims to support individuals in examining their alcohol consumption habits and making positive changes.
Recent data shows a decline in alcohol sales in Quebec, indicating a growing awareness of the risks associated with excessive drinking. With the support of five ambassadors this year, including Maripier Morin and Jean-Marie Lapointe, the foundation hopes to raise awareness and funds for addiction prevention programs.
Those interested in participating in the 28-Day Challenge can sign up on defi28jours.com for January, February, or both months. The registration fee of $28 contributes to addiction awareness initiatives and prevention programs in schools.
The Jean Lapointe Foundation’s fundraising goal of $500,000 will support various services, including inpatient treatment, family assistance programs, and addiction awareness campaigns in schools. Additionally, plans are underway to collaborate with Maison du Père to provide free therapy for homeless men in 2026.
