Starting Thursday, July 17, 12 p.m., no more campfires are allowed in the Coastal Fire Centre.
The BC Wildfire Service issued a category one open fire prohibition on Tuesday.
These restrictions will be in place until Oct. 31, or until the order is rescinded.
Anyone caught with an open fire could be issued a violation ticket for $1,150.
BC Wildfire Service says in a statement that this “prohibition is being enacted to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.”
The Coastal Fire Centre includes the Lower Mainland, Sea-to-Sky, Vancouver Island, Central Coast, and Haida Gwaii areas of B.C.

However, the campfire ban excludes the Haida Gwaii Forest District and the portion of the Central Coast Regional District that falls within the North Island Central Coast Forest District.
Category two and category three open fire prohibitions were already issued for the Coastal Fire Centre on May 28.
While category one regulates the burning of campfires, categories two and three are defined as any fire burning material in one pile or more, which is not bigger than two metres in height and three metres in width.
