“Get Ready for a Boost: Quebec’s Minimum Wage to Jump to $16.60 on May 1st!”

Quebec’s Minimum Wage to Increase to $16.60 per Hour in May

Come May 1st, workers in Quebec can expect a boost in their paychecks as the minimum wage is set to rise from $16.10 to $16.60 per hour. This 50-cent increase, amounting to a 3.1% rise, will benefit around 258,900 employees across various sectors, including retail.

For those in tipped positions, the hourly rate will also see a jump, going up from $12.90 to $13.30 on the same date, reflecting the same 3.1% increase.

Labour Minister Jean Boulet, in a recent interview with The Canadian Press, expressed his support for this wage hike. He believes it strikes a delicate balance by safeguarding workers against inflation while also considering the financial capacities of small and medium-sized businesses – the primary employers of minimum-wage workers.

It’s worth noting that the 3.1% increase surpasses the inflation forecast of 1.97% projected by the Ministry of Finance for the same period.
