The owners of a popular game store in the Lower Mainland are sharing their frustration over a series of thefts targeting their valuable Pokémon card collection. Despite providing ample evidence to the police, little action has been taken.
Channing Guenther, co-owner of Rain City Games, revealed that a suspected fraudster was caught on CCTV entering their store multiple times last summer. However, instead of stealing merchandise outright, the individual used stolen credit card numbers to make fraudulent purchases of Pokémon cards totaling over $1,000.
Despite identifying the suspect and providing evidence to the New Westminster Police Department (NWPD), Guenther claims that no significant action has been taken. This lack of response has left the owners feeling helpless and questioning the effectiveness of law enforcement.
The situation is part of a larger trend of thefts targeting game stores in the region, with recent incidents in Burnaby and New Westminster resulting in significant losses for businesses selling Pokémon cards.
In response to the ongoing thefts, Rain City Games has invested around $10,000 in upgrading its security system to prevent future incidents. However, without a clear resolution from the authorities, Guenther is left wondering about the value of these security measures.
