Ex-Husband of First Lady Jill Biden Denied Bail in Shocking Murder Charge

A 77-year-old Delaware man, William Stevenson, is currently being held in jail on first-degree murder charges in connection with the death of his wife, Linda Stevenson, who was found unresponsive in their home late last year. Despite failing to post bail of $500,000, Stevenson remains incarcerated as investigations continue into the tragic incident. The authorities have not revealed a motive behind the alleged crime.

The unfortunate event unfolded after police were summoned to the couple’s residence around 11 p.m. following reports of a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, they discovered Linda unresponsive in the living room, and attempts to revive her were unsuccessful. Stevenson’s arrest came after a thorough investigation by detectives from the Delaware Department of Justice, although it is unclear at present whether he has legal representation.

Notably, Stevenson was previously married to former first lady Jill Biden for a brief period from 1970 to 1975 before she wed U.S. Sen. Joe Biden in 1977, eventually becoming the country’s president from January 2021 to January 2025. While a spokesperson for the Bidens declined to comment on the matter, Linda Stevenson, a dedicated mother, grandmother, and Philadelphia Eagles enthusiast, ran a successful bookkeeping business. Her obituary, however, does not mention her husband.

Apart from his personal life, Stevenson had a significant impact in the entertainment scene, having founded the iconic music venue, the Stone Balloon, in Newark, Delaware, during the early 1970s. In a 2024 interview with Newsmax, Stevenson openly criticized Jill Biden, characterizing their divorce as acrimonious and branding her as “bitter” and “nasty.”
