“Measles Alert: Exposure at Montreal Airport Puts Travelers at Risk!”

Travelers are being urged to stay alert following a recent case of measles connected to Montréal–Trudeau International Airport. The infected individual, who arrived on a Vol Aero Mexico flight from Mexico on Jan. 21, passed through the airport and is not a resident of Montreal. Health authorities were notified of the case on Wednesday.

If you were on Vol Aero Mexico flight AM680 between 1 a.m. and 7:25 a.m., or visited the airport’s arrivals area between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. on that day, it is recommended to check your vaccination status and watch for symptoms until Feb. 11.

It is crucial to have received two doses of the measles vaccine for protection. Individuals born before 1970, with lab-confirmed antibodies, medical records showing a measles infection before Jan. 1, 1996, or diagnostic proof of a past infection may also be considered immune.

Symptoms of measles include high fever, cough, runny nose, red and sensitive eyes, and a rash that usually starts on the face and spreads to the body. Residents of Quebec requiring vaccination can schedule an appointment through Clic Santé or by calling 1-877-644-4545.

There have been nine confirmed outbreak-related cases, with a previous outbreak lasting from December 2024 to April 2025. The Pan American Health Organization has urged countries, including Canada, to enhance vaccination efforts and disease monitoring, especially as measles caused two deaths in Canada last year.

Officials emphasize that vaccination is the best defense against measles and encourage all residents to ensure they are adequately immunized.
