Protests Planned Across Quebec Against Cancellation of Quebec Experience Program
Residents across various Quebec cities are gearing up for demonstrations this Saturday to voice their opposition to the discontinuation of the Quebec Experience Program (PEQ).
Backed by major union federations including CSN, CSQ, and FTQ, these protests are set to kick off at 2 p.m. in key locations such as Montreal, Quebec City, Trois-Rivières, Sherbrooke, Saguenay (Chicoutimi), Gatineau, and Rimouski.
The rallies are spearheaded by “Le Québec c’est nous aussi,” a group dedicated to safeguarding the rights and living standards of immigrants in Quebec. Their primary demand is the implementation of a grandfather clause for existing residents who are actively employed in the province.
Despite assurances from Immigration, Francization, and Integration Minister Jean-François Roberge that about 6,300 healthcare professionals affected by the PEQ changes will be accommodated within the new Skilled Worker Selection Program, the protesting organizations remain unsatisfied. They insist on securing acquired rights for all current PEQ participants.
