Transport Quebec has announced upcoming major repair work that will lead to full closures on Highway 25, including the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel, on Monday and Friday nights. Additionally, Highway 20 will also experience closures on Saturday night.
The closure of Highway 25 is scheduled to start at 10 p.m. on Monday, February 16, and end at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, February 17, for essential maintenance and inspection work on the tunnel. During this period, Highway 25 towards the South Shore will be completely shut down between Exit 4 (Montreal downtown, Jacques-Cartier Bridge) and the entrance from Île Charron. Similarly, the section towards Montreal between Exit 90 (Highway 20 West, Route 132, La Prairie, USA, Varennes, P.-E.-Trudeau airport) and the entrance from Notre-Dame Street will be off-limits.
Both directions of the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel will be closed during this period, causing reroutes and potential delays. In conjunction with the highway closure, eastbound Souligny Avenue will also be affected, closing 30 minutes before the complete shutdown of Highway 25 between Dickson and Honoré-Beaugrand Streets.
For the Friday night closure, the tunnel will be inaccessible starting at 11 p.m. on February 20 until 8 a.m. on Saturday, February 21. Similar to the Monday closure, the affected areas will be between Exit 4 and the entrance from Île Charron towards the South Shore, and between Exit 90 and the Notre-Dame Street entrance towards Montreal.
Moreover, the closure of Highway 20 in the westbound direction will take place from 10 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, to 8 a.m. on Sunday, February 22, between exit 102 and the entrance from Armand-Frappier Boulevard near the Highway 20 and 30 interchange. Access from Armand-Frappier Boulevard and Chemin du Fer-à-Cheval will be restricted 30 minutes before the complete closure. In the eastbound direction, the entrance from Nobel Street will be shut from 9:30 p.m. on Saturday until 8 a.m. on Sunday.
It is important for drivers to stay informed as the closure is weather-dependent and may experience delays. Check Quebec 511 for the latest updates before commencing your journey.
