Experience the cutting-edge future of theatre at Montreal’s Centaur Theatre during the highly-anticipated WinterWorks festival. This event, hosted by Centaur Theatre, showcases four captivating Canadian productions by both established artists and emerging talents.
Running until Feb. 22, WinterWorks presents fully realized performances that have undergone residencies at the theater, promising a unique and engaging experience for audiences.
Rebecca Gibian, Centaur Theatre’s associate artist, expressed excitement about the diverse lineup, which includes dance-theatre performances with live-techno music and compelling new plays. According to Gibian, the festival aims to surprise and captivate all types of theatergoers with innovative storytelling methods.
One of the standout works featured in the festival is ‘The Healing,’ an immersive dance-theatre piece inspired by Montreal playwright Marie Barlizo’s personal journey. The production delves into Barlizo’s challenging upbringing and her quest for healing and transformation.
Collaborating with director Aaron Jan and choreographer Hanna Kiel, Barlizo brings her poignant story to life through a unique blend of contemporary dance and raw, emotional storytelling. Jan’s vision of turning the narrative into a dance performance adds a dynamic and visceral dimension to the production, allowing audiences to physically connect with the protagonist’s emotional struggles and triumphs.
‘The Healing’ offers moments of both serenity and intensity, reflecting the complexity of the human experience and the possibility of overcoming adversity to find inner peace and fulfillment. Barlizo hopes that audiences will be inspired by the resilience portrayed in the show and take away a message of hope and empowerment.
Don’t miss the opportunity to witness ‘The Healing’ at Centaur Theatre from Feb. 17 to Feb. 22, featuring evening performances at 8 p.m. and a matinee on the final day at 2 p.m.
